Finals Day on Sunday 17 September 2023 saw the culmination of the various matches played by members over the summer months. Despite the rather ‘iffy’ weather forecast the day turned out fine and warm apart from a bit of a downpour at midday which fortunately didn’t last long. The only casualty was the mixed doubles match which the rain curtailed at the delicate stage of one set apiece and, due to time constraints on one of the players, will now have to be completed later in the following week.
The Men’s Singles match was a humdinger of a match to watch – three sets, hard fought over more than three hours, final set 10-8 – and then they went on to play doubles!!
It was great to see the amount of support afforded to the finalists by members, their families, and friends.
Grateful thanks to all who took part and to all involved in making the day run as smoothly as it did, particularly our Captain of Tennis, Pete Rope, who did a sterling job organising the tournament throughout the summer and on Finals Day – no mean feat!
Grateful thanks too to all who organised the barbecue which sustained players and supporters during the day and to those who took time out to assist with the cooking.
